Burkinshaws is a family-run, RICS-regulated building surveying practice. We deliver independent services for homeowners, landlords, investors and businesses across London, Surrey, Kent, East Sussex — and UK-wide.

History

The Burkinshaw family has a long tradition in surveying, built on research, technical excellence and practical experience.

Our foundations were laid by Ralph Burkinshaw FRICS, a Chartered Building Surveyor whose textbooks on damp investigation and remediation remain industry references for surveyors today. He was also an early contributor to ISURV, the RICS’s official technical knowledge platform, helping to establish best practice guidance across the profession.

That spirit of rigour and innovation continues in the way we work today. Our defect surveys draw on methods developed through our own research — including in-house material testing, destructive opening-up and sampling — ensuring our advice is grounded in evidence rather than the limited visual-only surveys that have become commonplace in the industry.

This blend of family heritage and modern practice gives Burkinshaws a unique foundation: trusted expertise, passed down and continually refined for the benefit of our clients.
